25th World Energy Congress Organizing Committee Approved

Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev signed a Decree to create an organizing committee to prepare and hold the 25th World Energy Congress in St Petersburg in 2022 and to see to its composition.

The 25th World Energy Congress will be held from 11 to 15 June 2022 in St Petersburg. The Roscongress Foundation will organize the event in Russia; the agreement to hold the event in Russia was signed at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak was appointed Chairman of the Organizing Committee, with Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kobylkin serving as Deputy Chairmen for the Organizing Committee. Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov was appointed Deputy Chairman Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee.

 “Russia, as represented by the Russian National Committee of the World Energy Council, is one of the oldest members and a co-founder of the WEC and plays an important role in shaping the global energy agenda. In turn, thanks to a vast global energy network that includes more than 90 countries, the World Energy Council is capable of facilitating dialogue and discussion between the public and private sectors on vital energy-related issues. I’m certain that during the WEC event Saint Petersburg will become a centre for the global discussion surrounding the search for solutions to the urgent problems facing the modern global energy sector”, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov said.

The Organizing Committee also includes representatives of the Russian Ministry of Energy, PJSC Gazprom, PJSC Sberbank Russia, Rostec, Rosgeology, the Higher School of Economics, Tatneft, LUKOIL, and Transneft among others.

The World Energy Congress is a leading international gathering of key players from the global energy industry and facilitates discussion around the problems of how to maintain energy resources and is focussed on studying key industry trends. The World Energy Congress has been held since 1924 and brings together leading experts and professionals, scientists, government officials, and major media outlets to discuss the most important issues in energy sector development. The event brings together more than 4,000 delegates representing every sector in the energy system and provides a unique opportunity to exchange views and experience and to better understand the latest trends in a global way.

The bid campaign for the right to host the 2022 World Energy Congress was carried out by the Russian National Committee of the WEC, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation with the participation and support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and the Roscongress Foundation, Convention Bureau Russia, the Saint Petersburg Convention Bureau, and ExpoForum International (the official event site).
