Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy, had a phone conversation with the Secretary General of the World Energy Council Christopher Fray to discuss the issue of confirming the city of St. Petersburg as the venue for the 25th World Energy Congress in 2022.
The Minister noted that Russia winning the bid was extremely pleasant news for our country. “The support of the WEC Secretariat to the Russian National Committee in many ways contributed to the fact that, despite the tight deadlines, the Russian bid campaign succeeded,” said Alexander Novak expressing gratitude and emphasizing that Russia will make sure to provide all groundwork for organizing a world class event.
According to the Minister, a Russian organizing committee will be formed shortly. Representatives of the Government of the Russian Federation, federal executive bodies and of Russian companies–members of the RNC WEC will serve on the committee. “We plan to take a close look at the experience of the United Arab Emirates,” the Minister added.
In turn, Christopher Fray congratulated Russia on the win and noted that there is every reason to believe that the Congress will join the list of successful international events.
“In recent years, Russia has established itself as a country capable of professionally organizing and holding the most complex international events at the highest level. One of the most significant is the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. I hope that the World Energy Congress in 2022 will take a rightful place in this list of successful events,” said the Secretary of the WEC.
Alexander Novak also reminded that in the autumn of 2018 Russia already hosts several events significant for energy industry. So, on 3–6 October Moscow will host the Russian Energy Week, and on 11–13 September Vladivostok will become a platform for the Eastern Economic Forum. In the course of the phone conversation, the Russian Minister invited the Secretary General of the WEC to these events.
