Aspects of ensuring technological sovereignty in power engineering discussed at REW 2024

September 27, 2024

A stronger role of Russian companies on the market, as well as the tools and measures for supporting the energy sector, were discussed at the session “Power Engineering: Development to Achieve Technological Sovereignty” on 26 September at Moscow’s Gostiny Dvor as part of the Russian Energy Week International Forum.

“We propose to focus on digitalization of the energy sector and all related processes. We need to plan our activities a step ahead, to develop what will be important tomorrow. Russia has made significant progress in terms of software. Another key element of success is creation of turnkey energy equipment for customers,” believes Mikhail Smirnov, President of the Association of Innovative Enterprises in the Energy Industry “EnergoInnovation”.

For his part, Matvey Airapetov, Deputy Director of the Mechanical Engineering for Fuel and Energy Complex Department of the Ministry for Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said that the ministry was now working closely to support manufacturers of gas turbines and installations, especially those implementing advanced domestic developments. He also spoke about the ministry’s initiatives as part of the new national technological project “New Atomic and Analytical Technologies”.

Other panelists included Acting Deputy General Director – Technical Director of Gazprom Energoholding Industrial Assets Ivan Kleinrock, General Director of the Institute of Oil and Gas Technological Initiatives Nikolay Kuznetsov, Director of the Scientific and Innovation Engineering Center “Power Adaptive Photonics and Solar Aerospace Energy” at MIREA – Russian Technological University Vladimir Matyukhin, Deputy General Director, Head of the Thermal Power Engineering Division at Power Machines Ruslan Pakhomov, General Director of the Oil and Gas Cluster Alexander Sakevich, and Deputy General Director for Technical Policy and Engineering at T Plus Alexander Frolov. The session was also attended by Marat Minibayev, Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan. The discussion was moderated by Anatoly Zamriy, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Union of Oil and Gas Industrialists of Russia.

The speakers’ presentations inspire optimism that the targets for equipment localization in power engineering, especially in the gas turbine segment, will be achieved by 2025–2026, according to Dmitry Polokhin, Executive Secretary of the Committee for Energy Strategy and Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex, commenting on the results of the session.

The session was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation on Energy Strategy and Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex.

REW 2024 is being held on 26–28 September in Moscow at two venues: the Manege Central Exhibition Hall, hosting the main events of the business programme, and Gostiny Dvor, featuring an Exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for the Fuel and Energy Industry. The main theme of the 2024 Forum is “Energy cooperation in a multipolar world”. REW includes around 30 events involving more than 100 speakers. Over 20 sessions for engineering and technical staff of energy companies with more than 70 speakers will be held on the sidelines of the Exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for the Fuel and Energy Industry.

Russian Energy Week is supported by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Moscow City Government. The organizer is the Roscongress Foundation.

The business programme can be found on the Forum’s official website.
