The Russian Federation Government
has confirmed the Energy Strategy 2050 with two key priorities: supply of
energy resources to the domestic market and realization of export potential. The Energy Strategy
2050 was approved by Russian Government Resolution No. 908-p dated 12
April 2025. The document
was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak during a working
meeting held by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The document, of crucial significance for the state’s development,
had been updated on instructions from the Head of State.
The energy strategy
up to 2050 envisages measures to speed up development of oil and gas processing,
expand the programme for regional gasification, and supply the domestic market
with sufficient petroleum products at reasonable prices for all consumer
categories.
“The energy
strategy determines our country’s long-term reference points for the period up to
2050: development of the fuel and energy complex against the background of
global challenges, energy transition, introduction of digital technology, technological
changes in general and growing energy consumption. The strategy takes account of
a rise in the global demand for all sources by 20% by 2050. It is important to note
that the increase in industrial production, development of electric vehicles in
cities and growth of the digital infrastructure will provide for long-term
demand for energy resources and petrochemical products, all of which is also
taken into account in the document. The first steps in implementing the Energy Strategy
will be discussed during Russian Energy Week from 15 through 17 October in
Moscow”, noted
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
The energy strategy
has been synchronised with the strategies for spatial, scientific and technical
development, and other documents. Its purpose is to achieve a new state of the energy
sector, including by supplying Russia’s population and economy with guaranteed,
reasonably priced products and services of the fuel and energy complex, effectively
realising the country’s export potential, while ensuring energy security,
technological sovereignty and competitiveness of the fuel and energy complex.
“The energy
strategy is a vital document in the energy sphere, being of crucial significance
for our country’s development in this field up to 2050. The key development vectors
are diversification of energy sources, intensive introduction of innovative technologies
and provision for ecological sustainability, which will allow our country to
take leading positions in the global arena and ensure our nation’s energy
security. The Russian Energy Week business programme will take into account all the elements of realising the given
strategy, anticipating discussions and panel discussions between sector
leaders, public officials and energy majors”, stressed Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation
and Executive Secretary of Russian Energy Week International Forum Organizing
Committee, Anton Kobyakov.
Some of the
Energy Strategy measures are geared to accelerating implementation of infrastructure
projects and creating the necessary conditions for diverting flows of oil, gas and
their refined products to the markets of friendly countries, boosting oil transshipment
capacity at Arctic and far eastern ports, making active use of the potential of
the Northern Sea Route, and speeding up connection between the Sila Sibiri and
Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas transportation systems with the unified gas
supply system for priority supply of domestic market demand.
The project
of new Energy Strategy was discussed at strategic sessions involving industry
associations, expert communities and scientific research institutions. The plan
for implementing the strategy was drawn up by the Russian Energy Ministry and
presented to the government within six months.
The Russian Energy Week business programme will be held at two venues: Moscow’s Manege and Gostiny Dvor. This year, it will be structured in several key directions: the oil, gas and coal industry, electric energy, digital technology, scientific and technical development of the power industry, the climate agenda, energy security and others. The central event of the business programme will be its plenary session. There will be a separate focus on nuclear power as part of the sector’s 80th anniversary: a big stand demonstrating nuclear industry technology and equipment is planned at the Gostiny Dvor venue.
Russian Energy Week is supported by the Russian Government, Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Government. The Forum Organizer is the Roscongress Foundation.
