Gazprom Announces New Era of Russia-China Co-operation

March 19, 2019

A new era of co-operation between Russia and China in the energy sector begins in 2019. This was announced by Alexei Miller, the Head of Gazprom, at the opening of the exhibition ‘Treasures from The Palace Museum: The Flourishing of China in the 18th Century’ which is held in Moscow from 15 March to 30 May.

“2019 is a significant year for both Russia and China. A new era of our co-operation in the energy sector begins this year. On 1 December 2019 the world’s largest natural gas exporter, Gazprom, starts pipeline shipments to the world’s largest natural gas importer — China,” noted Alexei Miller.

The Head of Gazprom emphasized that new centres of natural gas production are being developed for this large-scale project.

“The volume of natural gas import to China was 126 billion cubic meters last year, which was 32% higher compared with that of 2017. Import volumes will be growing,” he added.

As it was reported earlier, the negotiations between Alexei Miller and Wang Yilin, Chairman of the Board of CNPC, resulted in an agreement that Gazprom would commence natural gas shipments to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline at a faster pace before the date specified in the contract – starting from 1 December 2019. According to the contract, Gazprom shall deliver over 1 trillion cubic meters of natural gas to China within 30 years.

Gazprom is the general partner of the Russian Energy Week. This year, the Forum will take place at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall, Moscow, on 2–5 October.
