The Russian Energy Week International Forum 2022 (REW) took place at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow on 12–14 October. REW is a major platform for the discussion of current trends in the fuel and energy industry in order to find solutions to key issues facing the industry. The slogan of this year’s REW is ‘Global Energy in a Multipolar World’. The Forum was organized by the Roscongress Foundation and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation with the support of the Moscow Government.

The Organizing Committee for 2019 Russian Energy Week International Forum has held a meeting in Moscow chaired by Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak. Opening the meeting, Novak thanked the Organizing Committee, the REW organizers, and representatives of the companies participating in the Forum for their joint constructive work on organizing the largest international event in the industry.

Russia has every opportunity to create an ambitious national carbon regulation system, given the absorptive capacity of its forests and the existence of institutions that are able to engage effectively with representatives of different economic sectors. The majority of experts at the business breakfast on ‘Carbon Attack: Development Driver vs Risk of Discrimination?’ as part of Russian Energy Week 2021 agreed that any such system should incentivize businesses to reduce emissions and introduce new technologies, while reducing payments under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for Russian companies.
