September 17, 2024

The business programme of the Russian Energy Week (REW) International Forum 2024 has been released on the event’s website. The Forum will take place in Moscow on 26–28 September. The main theme is ‘Energy Cooperation in a Multipolar World’. REW will feature roughly 30 thematic sessions and business dialogues that are divided into thematic pillars: ‘International Agenda: Cooperation for Development’, ‘Sustainable Energy Development’, ‘Technology and Data as the Foundation of Leadership’, ‘Development of Russia’s Fuel and Energy Industry Sector: Strategy and Regulation’, and ‘Socially Oriented Fuel and Energy Industry’.

“The REW 2024 business programme was prepared taking into account the industry’s demand for reform and the creation of new approaches to production. At the Forum, participants will examine ways to enhance the efficiency of work with traditional energy resources amidst growing demand for them and discuss strategies for the development of all aspects of production and processing, as well as the capabilities of low-carbon energy. The Russian fuel and energy industry plays a key role in the global energy market, so the decisions taken at the REW will have an impact on the development of global energy and the economy in the long term,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said.

As part of the ‘Sustainable Energy Development’ track, participants will discuss the role that hydrocarbons will play in the energy of the future, improved energy efficiency, and other issues. Discussions in the ‘Technology and Data as the Foundation of Leadership’ will focus on the robotization of the fuel and energy sector, the use of artificial intelligence in energy security, and prospects for the development of power engineering. The agenda for the ‘Development of Russia’s Fuel and Energy Industry Sector: Strategy and Regulation’ pillar will include plans for the development of oil production, the coal industry, and issues concerning electrification.

The REW 2024 business programme will devote extensive attention to international cooperation. The ‘International Agenda: Cooperation for Development’ pillar will include a session on energy cooperation between Russia and Africa, a meeting of BRICS ministers of energy, the annual meeting of the BRICS Energy Research Platform, as well as a discussion of global trends in the industry.

“The REW 2024 programme reflects the current challenges that the industry faces today, which include: achieving technological leadership in the energy sector, its social focus, as well as maintaining a balance of traditional and new energy sources to ensure the country’s sustainable development. It pays special attention to strengthening international ties within the structure of the fuel and energy industry and Russia’s role in the global energy industry. The systemic changes in the world require new approaches to solving global issues. I firmly believe the Forum will help formulate principles for the development of the fuel and energy sector on the basis of equality and partnership,” Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the REW 2024 Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov said.

The ‘Socially Oriented Fuel and Energy Industry’ section will focus on the development of infrastructure, including changes in the power distribution grid, as well as issues concerning power generation and the integration of industry innovations in cities. It will also touch upon legal support for the fuel and energy industry and the development of the energy system in Russia.

“The Russian Energy Week business programme will give us an opportunity to discuss how we might better consolidate the efforts of everyone in the fuel and energy complex, combine our skills, develop common standards, and identify priorities, like the need to train more qualified personnel, for example. The Forum’s extensive international agenda and the Meeting of BRICS Energy Ministers will also make a significant contribution to the development of the fuel and energy complex and help us create a new image for the global energy sector. Russian Energy Week 2024 will also host wide-ranging expert discussion of the ‘New Nuclear and Energy Technologies’ national project and the Energy Strategy the Russian Ministry of Energy is developing at the behest of the President,” Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev said.

The ‘Territory of Energy Dialogue’ Scientific and Practical Conference will be held on the opening day of the Forum. The main programme will feature business breakfasts dedicated to the future of energy. The main events will take place on 26–27 September. Russian Energy Week will conclude with the traditional Youth Day. In addition, the international Global Energy Prize will be presented for outstanding research, scientific, and technical developments that help enhance the efficiency and environmental safety of energy sources on Earth in the interests of humanity. An award ceremony will also be held for the winners of the international Energy of the Pen award, which aims to support journalists, observers, and experts who write about the most pressing issues in the modern energy industry, including the transformation of the global energy balance, the development of new technologies, and climate change.

This will mark the first year that REW is held at two separate venues: Manege Central Exhibition Hall will host business programme events, while Gostiny Dvor will host an exhibition of fuel and energy equipment and technologies, where leading manufacturing companies, equipment suppliers, and technology companies from all sectors of the fuel and energy industry will present promising projects, breakthrough achievements, innovative equipment, and advanced technologies to a wide range of companies that specialize in the extraction, processing, transportation, transmission, and distribution of energy resources.

The Russian Energy Week International Forum is held with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Government of Moscow. The organizer is the Roscongress Foundation.

The business programme is available on the Forum’s official website.
