REW 2019 Discussed the Prospects for the Development of High-Power Gas Turbines
The ‘Power Engineering: Prospects for the Development of High-Capacity Gas Turbines in the Russian Federation’ discussion took place on 3 October on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week 2019 Forum. Among the discussion participants were Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Andrey Cherezov, Head of Department of Operational Control and Management in Electric Power Industry of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Evgeniy Grabchak, Deputy Director of Machine Tool Building and Investment Machine Building Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Oleg Tokarev and generating companies’ representatives and heads of power engineering enterprises.
The development and production of high-power turbines is a complex technical task, not only with regards to the turbine itself but also to adjacent sectors. There is a demand for such turbines. Up to 60 large-capacity turbines are to be replaced in Russia and the CIS countries by 2035. However, in Europe, the production of high-power turbines is declining rapidly, up to 20% per year. It is due to both the natural gas price increase and the green energy agenda. Our country developed a high power turbine GTD-110M to emerge from a dependence on exports.
“I expect this turbine, which has already run 3,000 hours, will be put into mass production. However, it will not be able to cover the demand of the domestic market. Russian energy needs turbines with even greater capacity. We have three options: local production, technology transfer, or the development of domestic turbines,” said Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Andrey Cherezov opening the discussion.
Oleg Tokarev, Deputy Director of Machine Tool Building and Investment Machine Building Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, emphasized that that ministry is interested in the establishment of domestic gas turbine engineering. “To address this issue, we need to set up the development and production of turbines, their components and post-sales services. Having fulfilled these three conditions, we can be confident that Russia has the competence of gas turbine engineering and is rightfully one of the high-tech countries,” he said. Oleg Tokarev also spoke about existing support of domestic gas turbine construction, such as an exclusive investment contract and pilot production subsidizing.
Representatives of power engineering enterprises spoke about the situation with the development and production of domestic high-power gas turbines and its components. The discussion participants spoke about the problems associated with the localization of gas turbine production in our country and the adjustment of the regulatory framework necessary to shape the domestic market of high-power gas turbines, as well as the cooperation between companies operating energy equipment and its manufacturers.
The Russian Energy Week is organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Roscongress Foundation with the support of Moscow Government.
