The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Alexander Novak, and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office and Press Secretary to the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, presented awards to the winners of the Energy of Words international media contest, organized by the Global Energy Association. The ceremony took place as part of the business programme of the Russian Energy Week (REW) International Forum, held in Moscow on 26–28 September 2024.
“In global energy, colossal transformations are taking place – such as the globalization of gas markets, the expansion of nuclear energy’s geography, breakthroughs in wind and solar generation, and increased investments in offshore oil production. These topics provide industry journalists and analysts with immense opportunities for creativity and in-depth analysis. You are fortunate to work in this profession at a time when the industry is figuratively at the crest of history,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexander Novak, in his address to the competition winners.
“The Russian energy sector has been, is, and will remain a foundational industry for our economy. This doesn’t mean we are merely a gas station; on the contrary, it means that Russia’s energy sector has become a stable engine of progress. Our nuclear sector is almost unrivaled globally, often surpassing competitors in scale. Our oil and gas companies use advanced technologies and actively implement artificial intelligence in their operations. Isn’t this a significant boost for our entire economy, particularly in its high-tech dimension? Therefore, there has been, is, and will be plenty of work for journalists, ensuring the longevity of this development,” Dmitry Peskov, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office and Press Secretary to the President of the Russian Federation.
The ceremony was attended by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom; Alexander Dyukov, Chairman of Gazprom Neft; and Sergey Grigoryev, Deputy General Director and Director of Public Relations and Communications at SUEK (Siberian Coal Energy Company).
The event was hosted by Sergey Brilev, President of the Global Energy Association.
A total of 217 entries were submitted for the 2024 competition, with 117 coming from 19 regions of Russia and the remaining 100 from 27 foreign countries, including those in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and South America. The winners were selected by a jury consisting of leaders from major television channels, business publications, and news agencies.
To ensure the objectivity of the awards, the press offices of Global Energy Association members, such as Gazprom, Rosseti, and Surgutneftegas, were not involved in the competition.
