The Russian Energy
Week International Forum was held for the seventh time on 26–28 September in
Moscow. It was attended by government officials from different countries, the
CEOs of major Russian and international energy companies and organizations,
scientists, and experts.
“There are
currently three main trends in the global energy sector: the growing demand for
energy that we are seeing today and will continue in the future, technological
innovations that are changing the economy and energy, as well as changes in
geopolitics. The visit to Moscow by representatives of dozens of foreign
countries is an opportunity to discuss the current situation and current
forecasts, as well as to expand cooperation between our countries. Russian
Energy Week is a wonderful platform for this,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said.
The main theme of
REW this year is ‘Energy Cooperation in a Multipolar World’.
“The modern world
cannot exist without Russian energy. Western leaders have declared an economic
war against us, but it actually turns out that French and Spanish companies and
half of Eastern Europe are officially buying Russian energy resources. The rest
are buying them as well, just unofficially by pretending they are not Russian.
It’s difficult to break up markets in the modern world. Global energy markets
will be unbalanced and won’t be able to
get by without Russia. The new multipolar world order, which the world majority
is declaring today that there are no alternatives to, is more clearly taking
shape and becoming an objective reality, making the debates and decisions that
we discussed at the REW platform even more significant. More than 5,300
participants from 81 countries took part in the Forum. The largest delegations
were from China, Venezuela, Iran, the UAE, and South Africa. The Forum once
again affirmed its status as a key industry platform, and this high level of
interest from foreign participants shows that the multipolar world order is
becoming our objective reality despite the counterproductive actions of a
number of Western countries,” Adviser to the
President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the REW 2024
Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov said.
For the first
time, the events of REW were held at two venues: the Manege Central Exhibition
Hall, where the main events of the business programme took place, and Gostiny
Dvor, which hosted the Exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for the Fuel
and Energy Industry.
Business programme
The Forum’s
business programme included roughly 55 events featuring 350 speakers. It
was divided into five pillars: ‘International Agenda: Cooperation for
Development’, ‘Sustainable Energy Development’, ‘Technology and Data as the
Foundation of Leadership’, ‘Development of Russia’s Fuel and Energy Industry
Sectors: Strategy and Regulation’, and ‘Socially Oriented Fuel and Energy
Industry’.
The keynote event
of the Forum was the plenary session at which President of the Russian
Federation Vladimir Putin spoke. President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro
Obiang Nguema Mbasogo also took part in the session.
During the plenary
session, Putin noted that Russia is a global leader in the nuclear sector and
will secure this status as part of the national project ‘New Nuclear and
Energy Technologies’, which will be launched next year.
Deputy Prime
Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy
of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev, and Moscow Mayor Sergey
Sobyanin also took part in plenary sessions.
The REW agenda
focused heavily on international cooperation and included a session devoted to
energy cooperation between Russia and Africa, the annual meeting of the BRICS
Energy Research Platform, and a discussion of global industry trends.
Another key event
of the Forum was the meeting of BRICS energy ministers, which was a
milestone of the year of Russia’s BRICS chairmanship.
Events on the
sidelines of the Forum included a meeting of the Coordinating Council for
Import Substitution of Oil and Gas Equipment under the Government Import
Substitution Commission and a meeting of the State Council’s Energy
Commission on ways to increase the reliability and efficiency of Russia’s
power grid.
The research and
training conference ‘Territory of Energy Dialogue’ was held on the
opening day of the Forum.

programme of the Exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for the Fuel and
Energy Industry at Gostiny Dvor featured more than 20 sessions for the
engineering and technical staff of energy companies.
