Global Energy Summit held during REW

The Global Energy Summit was held on the sidelines of the REW 2017 Forum with the main theme ‘Creating a Synthesis between the Three Es (Economy, Environment and Energy) as a Factor in Our Planet’s Health: The Hydrocarbons Era – Opening Up Opportunities for the Development of New Technologies’.

Speakers at the event included Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Adnan Amin, Global Energy Prize Laureate 2012 and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Boris Katorgin, Global Energy Prize Laureate 2007 and General Director of the Innovation Centre Iceland Thorsteinn Ingi Sigfusson, Director of the Sophia Antipolis Foundation and Chairman of the Russian Technology Foundation (RTF) Dominique Fache, and President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin. The moderator of the discussion was Head of Russia Today Business Programmes Oksana Derevyanko-Ghozzi.

The experts discussed problems concerning the energy balance and the ratio of renewable energy sources and traditional hydrocarbons.

The discussion participants reached an understanding that coordinated actions are needed to promote advanced technologies.

The Summit concluded with the awarding of the Global Energy Prize to Leonid Plotnikov as part of the ‘Breakthrough Energy’ programme for his contribution to the development of internal combustion engines.
