Rosseti Deputy General Director and Chief Engineer Evgeny Lyapunov told
the participants in the Russian Energy Week session ‘Energy Development: Who
Will Invest?’ about the company’s approaches in the grid network to increase
the reliability of power supply to consumers, as well as optimize funds to
modernize and develop infrastructure given the current shortage in tariff
sources.
Lyapunov noted that Rosseti is taking measures to increase the
efficiency of investments in maintaining and renovating energy facilities, and
to counter the trend towards aging assets. This includes repairs based on the
actual condition of the equipment, and the use of preventive diagnostic tools.
In some cases, developing the grid network could also be an effective
substitution for the construction of new generation infrastructure, which is
particularly important for ensuring the growing consumption in the regions. For
example, in 2022, Rosseti built a more than 1,100-km transit line in northwest
Russia to ensure the transmission of power from the Kola Nuclear Power Plant
that had previously been unavailable. Similar projects are being implemented in
Siberia and the Far East, in part to expand the Eastern railway domain.
Lyapunov also noted that innovative activities are a key focus for
further increasing the efficiency of investments in the industry. “Software
systems have been developed and are being introduced that reduce time and
resources at the stages of the design and commissioning of facilities, as well
as optimize technical solutions, which is paramount to reducing costs during subsequent
operation. We have examples of 500-kV substations being built in two years,
which is half the standard period,” he noted.
Rosseti is also working to develop equipment. Using its own scientific
and technical centre, and in partnership with manufacturers, the company has
created new types of compacted wires that can transmit more power using
existing power lines. In St. Petersburg, the company is building a
high-temperature superconducting cable line, which has no analogues in the
world in terms of its length. This solution will make it possible to transmit
up to 50 MW of power at a voltage class of 20 kV.
The Russian Energy Week
International Forum is a key global platform for discussing current trends in
the development of the modern fuel and energy sector. This event is
traditionally held at the highest level, featuring the participation of leaders
from the largest companies in the energy industry. In 2022, more than 70 events,
with the involvement of over 270 speakers, were held as part of REW. The Forum
attracted over 3,000 participants and media representatives from Russia, as
well as 83 foreign countries and territories. The Forum is organized by the
Roscongress Foundation and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation,
with the support of the Moscow City Government.
