The Rosatom State Atomic
Energy Corporation and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Myanmar signed
a Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week (REW)
to assess and develop nuclear infrastructure in Myanmar.
The document was signed by
Rosatom State Corporation Director General Alexey Likhachev and Minister of
Science and Technology of Myanmar Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw.
The two countries plan to
determine the current needs for the development of Myanmar’s nuclear
infrastructure and formulate a plan for priority areas of work that is required
to implement a project to build a low-power nuclear power plant in Myanmar. The
document states that Myanmar’s nuclear infrastructure will be developed in
accordance with the approaches and recommendations of the IAEA, as well as the
best practices of the Rosatom State Corporation. The memorandum also seeks to
further expand Russian-Myanmar cooperation in the training and development of
human resources and improve safety culture at organizations that are involved
in Myanmar’s nuclear energy development programme.
