Over 3,000 participants from more than 70 foreign countries have confirmed their presence at the 5th Russian Energy Week International Forum. The Forum will be attended by 16 foreign ministers from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Mali, Myanmar, Belarus, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Some 50 heads of the diplomatic corps as well as high-ranking officials from the Republic of Abkhazia and Uzbekistan are expected to participate. The level of participants announced makes REW a unique international platform for dialogue between industry professionals, government officials and business.

The business programme of the Forum will consist of more than 40 events, and REW will culminate with Youth Day, in which the Russian society ‘Znanie’ will co-host a panel discussion. The educational organization is acting in partnership with the main organizers of the Youth Day of the Forum: the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the Roscongress Foundation, the Moscow City Government and Nadezhnaya Smena Charity Foundation.

“The Russian society ‘Znanie’ is a partner of REW and has co-organized this year’s plenary session as part of the Youth Day of the Forum. This platform will open up opportunities for direct communication between young people and top decision-makers. Participants will not only have an opportunity to personally communicate with government officials and heads of leading companies in the fuel and energy sector but will also be able to share their ideas and projects. This will allow them to move from the ‘just an idea’ stage to its practical implementation, thus getting closer to their dreams,” said Maxim Dreval, General Director, Russian society ‘Znanie’.

At the Youth Day panel discussion, experts will exchange experiences and ideas on Russia’s fuel and energy sector. Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, will discuss key global energy issues with experts and participants. He will participate in the discussion, and will personally announce the winners of the industry’s competitions. For example, the winning teams of Youth Global Energy Outlook, and the winners of the Oil Industry IT Championship, the All-Russian Olympiad for school children by the Rosseti Group, and the CASE-IN International Engineering Championship.

In addition, the Russian society ‘Znanie’ will launch the Energy of Knowledge podcast studio at the Forum venue. In a live broadcast at the educational organization’s studio, invited guests will discuss the prospects for the development of the world’s energy industry. The podcasts will be hosted by Vladimir Arkhireisky and Alevtina Penkalskaya, while the guest list includes leading experts and analysts of the fuel and energy sector.

The Russian society ‘Znanie’ has also created multimedia content, in the form of a series of infographics. They are dedicated to the development of the fuel and energy sector and the prospects for international cooperation. The videos will be available not only on digital surfaces in the Forum’s business programme halls, but also in broadcasts on the Forum’s official website before the start of the relevant business programme sessions, as well as in broadcasts on the official online resources of the Russian society ‘Znanie’.

06 October 2018 Energy Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education meet with students and young experts at REW 2018

On 6 October, as part of #BrighterTogether Youth Day of the Russian Energy Week 2018, Energy Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, held an informal meeting with students and young specialists. In his opening remarks, Alexander Novak pointed to the unprecedented scale of REW 2018, which has become an important international platform for discussing development problems faced by the energy sector. In particular, he said that around 10,000 specialists from 70 regions of Russia had taken part in the Russian Energy Week 2018, including 3000 young people aged under 35. The REW 2018 hosted 60 events and considered 70 projects, and most of them were developed involving young specialists, according to the Minister. Taking questions from young people, Alexander Novak and Mikhail Kotyukov stressed the need to foster educational programmes aimed at effectively attracting the youth into the energy sector. To illustrate this idea, Mr Novak recalled his first steps in the industry. Among other things, he said young specialists of his plant were actively involved in the development and introduction of streamlining proposals. The Energy Minister believes that the practice should be restored. The industry urgently needs the energy of young people, full of initiative and aimed to achieve the best results. Therefore, the top priority is to create the information and communication platforms for the youth to attract young people to the development and implementation of the industry’s projects. Addressing the audience, Alexander Novak invited participants to take part in the work of his ministry’s scientific and technical council. At the same time, he noted that not only the ministry but each large company in the sector should rely on the energy and knowledge of young specialists. The Minister said this was one of the indispensible prerequisites of the progressive development for any industrial team. In turn, Mikhail Kotyukov pointed to the importance of mentor traditions at production sites where experienced workers would assume patronage over their younger colleagues. “In my time, one of my mentors was Alexander Novak, and I have learnt a lot from him,” Mr Kotyukov confided. In this respect, he said the Ministry of Science and Higher Education planned to open 900 science labs at higher education institutions with a view to preparing over 35,000 new researchers who will promote the development of all spheres of the Russian economy, including energy. The meeting ended with a formal ceremony in which Alexander Novak and Mikhail Kotyukov handed awards to the winners of youth competitions held during the Russian Energy Week 2018.
