President of the Russian Federation

Vladimir Putin

Dear friends,

I would like to cordially welcome all the participants and guests of this forum.

Over the past few years, the forum has rightfully become one of the most prominent international platforms for discussing current issues related to the fuel and energy industry. It is here that top managers of major companies and scientific institutes, as well as politicians and experts from Russia and other countries, evaluate development trends and prospects for the fuel and energy sector, exchange views on the technological challenges the industry faces, and consider problems related to environmental protection and climate change.

The theme of this year’s forum is The New Reality of Global Energy: Building the Future. Achievements that shape the future of both Russian and global energy will be presented during the business programme. There will be reports on the immediate and long-term priorities in the oil, gas, coal, and electric power industries. Participants will discuss strengthening Russia’s technological sovereignty and the digital transformation of the domestic fuel and energy sector.

As per tradition, forum participants will pay special attention to international energy cooperation. Despite the current geopolitical situation, this area of focus is actively evolving today. Economic growth, scientific and technological progress, and improvements to the quality of life of people around the world directly depend on effectively utilising the potential of this partnership.

I am certain that the recommendations developed during the Russian Energy Week and the agreements signed on the sidelines will help to strengthen cooperation in this strategic area and to build a prosperous future for our countries and nations.

I wish you all productive and successful work.

Vladimir Putin

RUSSIAN ENERGY WEEK SPEAKERS

Alexander Novak
Alexander Novak Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation
  • “REW 2024 has once again confirmed its reputation as one of the most significant events in the field of international energy. We see high interest from both Russian and foreign guests. In this Forum preparation cycle, special attention will be given to expanding the participation of the international business community.”

Evgeny Grabchak
Evgeny Grabchak Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation
  • “We have reached the level of energy consumption that was planned by the Soviet energy system in the 1960s–1980s, during the boom in power generation construction. Over the past three decades, we have underinvested in the sector by RUB 40 trillion. Everything that was not invested then will have to be invested now. If we want economic growth and a higher quality of life, we need to develop the energy sector. LED bulbs alone won’t be enough.”

Pavel Zavalny
Pavel Zavalny First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Energy; President, Russian Gas Society
  • “Overall, the situation in the Russian oil and petroleum product market is stable and manageable. However, certain regulatory mechanisms require fine-tuning, and the legal framework needs to be supplemented, including in the area of anti-terrorism security. This work is ongoing.”

Sergei Sobyanin
Sergei Sobyanin Mayor of Moscow
  • “We have increased the city’s lighting by 1.5 times, making Moscow one of the most illuminated cities in the world, visible even from space. At the same time, the additional energy costs were zero. In other words, we consume the same amount of electricity for city lighting as we did ten years ago. Today, we have enhanced illumination by 1.5 times without incurring additional energy capacity costs. This makes the city more convenient for both residents and businesses.”

Sergey Tsivilev
Sergey Tsivilev Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation
  • «As part of REW, a meeting of BRICS energy ministers took place. At this meeting, we adopted a joint communiqué, which we had worked on throughout the year to develop. The first point is ensuring access for all participants in the BRICS energy transition to modern technologies and financial instruments. The second point is the inadmissibility of discrimination.»

Alexey Likhachev
Alexey Likhachev , Director General, State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM
  • “Rosatom is developing not only nuclear energy but also actively advancing other innovative fields: nuclear medicine, quantum computing, bioprinting, and the development of materials with specific properties. Our immediate goal is to bring these advancements to industrial implementation and production, making them accessible to end consumers.”

Andrey Ryumin
Andrey Ryumin General Director, Chairman of the Management Board, Rosseti
  • “Energy companies around the world are discussing with governments the insufficiency of existing financing methods to support the infrastructure enhancements necessary for technological development. Without state support and joint solutions in this area, progress will not be possible.”
