Panel discussion titled ‘The Evolution of Energy
Systems: a Global Perspective’ will be held at the Central Exhibition Hall
Manege during the Russian Energy Week (REW 2019) on 4 October 2019. The session
is organized with the support of Rosseti FGC UES and the International Council
on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE – the largest community of industry experts,
bringing together professionals from 98 countries).
Heads of CIGRE are invited to participate, including
Marcio Szechtman, Technical Council Chair (Brazil), Philippe Adam, CIGRE
Secretary General (France), and Adam Middleton, Chair of the CIGRE UK National
Committee. The discussion will be moderated by Andrey Murov, Chair of the CIGRE
Russian National Committee and Chairman of the Management Board at FGC UES.
Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Rosseti, Inter RAO, SO UES,
NP Market Council Association, and EY will take part in the session as well.
Several trends are
impacting the development of the modern electric power industry, some of which,
at first glance, contradict each other. Among them are the development of
renewable energy sources and the continuing demand for reliable electricity
supply, the growth of new energy-intensive sectors of the economy and energy
saving, variety of technologies and regulations, digitalization and
cybersecurity, decentralization of energy systems, and the creation of
international energy corridors and associations.
In different countries,
these phenomena have different levels of penetration, with positive and
negative consequences. The main question to be answered by the session
participants is: how stable are these trends and which of them will determine
the development path of the industry in the long term?
Russian Energy Week is organized
by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Roscongress
Foundation with the support of the Government of Moscow.
