Russian Deputy Prime Minister
Alexander Novak and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Presidential Executive
Office and Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov presented awards to the
winners of the Energy of the Pen international media competition during a
ceremony as part of the business programme of the Russian Energy Week (REW)
International Forum, which is taking place in Moscow on 11–13 October.
“The Russian and global energy
industries are going through a period of transformation. The restructuring of
logistics in hydrocarbon trade, the ‘nuclear’ renaissance, the rapid growth in
demand for clean energy, and the shift in demand for coal to the Asia-Pacific
region – these and other trends require professional coverage, which is
provided not only by experts, but also by representatives of the national and
regional media, news agency employees, television journalists, and bloggers.
It’s difficult to overestimate the importance of the work of media members who
inform readers and viewers about the life of the industry,” Novak said.
“Everything related to the
fuel and energy sector remains one of the key drivers that determines
everything in this world, including in our country. I must admit that our fuel
and energy industry did an excellent job during this entire extremely turbulent
year. Despite everything – the turbulence, challenges, and crises on international
markets – our industry has maintained its position. Not only have we retained
all our coordination mechanisms with our partners on global markets, we have
also managed to expand these mechanisms. The efforts being made on
international markets are key to ensuring that these markets remain stable
while everything around them is turbulent. Despite all the challenges within
the country, the fuel and energy sector remained reliable and predictable. It
encounters problems, but has proven its ability to solve these problems, solve
them effectively, and, where necessary, harshly, but always with a positive
result,” Peskov said.
The Energy of the Pen
competition received a total of 262 applications from Russia and 23 other
countries. The winners were selected by a panel of judges comprised of the
directors of major television channels, business publications, and news
agencies.
To ensure the prizes were
awarded in an objective manner, the press services of the member companies of
the Global Energy Association – Gazprom, Rosseti, and Surgutneftegas – did not
take part in the competition.
The award ceremony was hosted
by Sergey Brilyov, president of the Global Energy Association, which organized
the competition.
“International and regional
stability, as well as people’s well-being, directly depend on the energy
industry. The contestants provide an objective, in-depth, and concerned
analysis of all aspects of the energy sector, while informing [us] about their
successes and innovative developments, on the one hand, and identifying
industry problems, on the other. All the works presented on the shortlist for
the Energy of the Pen award are top notch, regardless of the genre in which
they were made, be it television reports, analytical articles in the print press
and electronic media, or posts on the author’s Telegram channels,” said
Alexander Zharov, the general director of Gazprom-Media Holding and a member of
the panel of judges for the Energy of the Pen 2023 competition.
