The
official website of the Russian Energy Week International Forum, which will be
held in Moscow from 11 to 13 October 2023 at the Manezh Central Exhibition
Hall, has
published the full business programme of the event with key speakers of expert
discussions. The programme covers a wide range of issues
related to the transformation and development of the global energy market. The
central theme of this year's Forum is "The New Reality of Global Energy:
Building the Future".
"The
role of the fuel and energy sector as an economic engine is of particular
importance for most countries in the world today due to the structural changes
taking place. The entire global energy industry is literally changing before
our eyes. At the Russian Energy Week, we will discuss strategically important
issues of oil, gas, and coal industry development in the new geopolitical
conditions and challenges for the entire global energy market. We will pay special
attention to the digitalization of the sector, the use of future technologies,
artificial intelligence and other modern developments," said Alexander
Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
This year, the Forum's
business programme includes more than 30 events divided into thematic blocks:
The International Agenda; Sustainable Development and the Climate; Scientific
and Technological Development, and the Digital Transformation; The Development
of the Fuel and Energy Sectors. On the REW opening day, the scientific and
practical conference entitled "Territory of Energy Dialogue" will be
held. The main programme of the Forum will also include two business thematic
breakfasts: "Energy for a New Day: Preserving the Present, Creating the
Future" and "The Route Created: The Exchange Highway for the Fuel and
Energy Sector".
"The
global energy industry today is under intense pressure from political and
macroeconomic uncertainties. However, in addition to short-term factors, there
are important trends that are difficult to predict, such as the decarbonization
of the energy sector and the excessive growth of renewable sources in the
world. All these processes complicate the energy transition and make the
international resource trade situation extremely confusing. Opportunities and
risks of the energy transition, new market trends, possible scenarios for the
development of the global energy sector – all these issues will be discussed by
the participants of the Russian Energy Week," said Anton Kobyakov, Advisor
to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the
Organizing Committee of REW 2023.
The
sessions of The International Agenda track will focus on different scenarios of
global energy development and the prospects of using environmentally friendly
and sustainable energy sources. Special attention will be paid to the prospects
of energy co-operation between Russia and African countries, as well as between
Russia and China. The central event of this block of the business programme will
be the session entitled "The Global Oil and Gas Market: Navigating a
Period of Turbulence " with participation of Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime
Minister of the Russian Federation. The discussion will be attended by heads of
relevant ministries of foreign countries, including H.E. Haisam Al Ghais,
Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC);
Radovan Višković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia; Javad Oji, Minister
of Oil of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of
Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Sergey Brilev, President of the Global
Energy Association, will moderate the session.
The
sessions of the Sustainable Development and the Climate block will focus on the
future of low-carbon energy in Russia and new climate projects. In addition,
major employers, companies operating in the fuel and energy sector, will talk
about their experience of competing for qualified personnel, new challenges in
their communication activities and the vulnerability of company brands, which
are now higher than ever.
Scientific
and technological development and digital transformation will also be among the
key topics of the upcoming Russian Energy Week. Participants in the business
programme will share their thoughts on urbanization and "cities of the
future", the introduction of modern energy solutions, and technological
sovereignty in the oil and gas sector. Industry experts will discuss new
hydrogen energy technologies and digital transformation of the energy sector.
Special attention will be paid to artificial intelligence and the prospects for
its application in the fuel and energy complex, as well as the development of
electric transport and related infrastructure.
The
central event in this area of the REW 2023 business programme will be a session
of the Global Energy Association entitled "Creating the City of the
Future" that will bring together Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, Chairman of
VEB.RF Igor Shuvalov, and foreign guests. The panelists will discuss the
integration of information and communication technologies with the Internet of
Things for urban management, as well as the introduction of new energy
technologies that allow to increase energy efficiency, ensure electrification
of transport and ensure a favorable environmental situation in the city.
The
sessions of the ‘Development of the Fuel and Energy Sectors’ track of the REW
2023 business programme will be dedicated to various industry trends. Forum
participants and guests will discuss the prospects of decarbonization of the
energy sector, the future of natural gas (methane) use, new challenges for the
coal industry, and the development of Russian hydropower. The discussions will
also cover the topic of cryptocurrency mining and its impact on the energy
sector, improving the reliability of the distribution grid complex, development
of the heat supply system, and occupational health and safety of employees in
the power industry.
13
October is the Forum’s Youth Day. During the programme, which includes events
dedicated to promoting the fuel and energy sector and engineering education,
industry youth, as well as managers and experts, will exchange ideas and
jointly form the fuel and energy sector's youth agenda for the next year. The
main youth event in the field of energy development will be attended by more
than 1,500 young specialists, students and schoolchildren, as well as heads of
authorities, industry companies and universities. The programme is available on
the official website of REW 2023.
In
addition to business events, REW 2023 will host the traditional ceremony of the
Global Energy International Prize for outstanding research and scientific and
technical developments that contribute to improving the efficiency and
environmental safety of energy sources on Earth in the interests of all
mankind. There will also be an award ceremony to honour the winners of the
Energy of the Pen international journalism prize, designed to encourage
journalists, columnists and experts who write about the most pressing issues of
modern energy, including the transformation of the global energy balance, the
development of new technologies and climate change.
