The Government of the Russian Federation has been instructed by Prime Minister Medvedev to develop a set of state support measures for electric vehicles in Russia by 17 August.
Market players have already been putting forward proposals. Some ideas include setting a zero tax rate for electric and hybrid vehicles, adopting a programme of free parking spaces for them and introducing a medium-term programme of subsidies for e-vehicle purchases. Some 1,000 e-vehicles have been registered in Russia so far.
A large-scale project for an all-Russia network of charging stations is also under way. Leading locations include Moscow and the Moscow Region, St Petersburg, Sochi, Yaroslavl, Ekaterinburg, Ryazan, Oryol and Valaam Island. There are estimated to be some 300 charging stations in Russia. At least 38 more are to be installed by the end of this year:
- Five in Samara;
- Three in Krasnoyarsk;
- Three in Ekaterinburg;
- Two in Vladivostok, etc.
Experts and energy company representatives will discuss the outlook for e-vehicles at the “Investing in the future: developing a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles” session as part of the Russian Energy Week.
