Prospects for the development of municipal heat supplies to come under scrutiny at REW 2018

Among the events set to take place during Russian Energy Week is a panel session entitled “Increasing Efficiency in Municipal Heat Supplies”.

Numerous experts will put forth their views on current issues in the industry and development pathways, including President of Russian Heat Supplying Viktor Semenov, Deputy Director of the Electric Power Development Department at the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexey Khrapkov, Deputy Director of the Housing and Utilities Department at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Igor Kulakov, and Deputy Governor of Chelyabinsk Region Sergey Shal.

Every single resident is impacted by the quality and reliability of heat supplies. Situations often emerge in which major energy companies disengage from businesses related to heat supplies, because they were loss-making. This creates a complex situation for regional and municipal authorities, forcing them to find other solutions to this issue using state funds and emergency measures. Such crises create a need for consistent, comprehensive approaches to resolving them and – more importantly – preventing them.

Semenov has already stated that increasing heat supply efficiency is impossible for as long as companies in the field run at a loss. It is therefore crucial that government bodies act in a predictable and coordinated fashion on the one hand, and that organizations take steps to reduce costs and losses on the other.
