Participants
in the session ‘Energy Transition Technologies: From Theory to Practice’, which
was held on 27 September in Moscow at Gostiny Dvor as part of the Russian
Energy Week International Forum, discussed the process of transitioning to
renewable energy sources in Russia and prospects for the integration of
advanced technologies and scientific innovations in this regard.
“The
priority focuses for supporting the energy transition are the greening of
enterprises in the fuel and energy industry. An essential factor in this
process is the introduction of new technologies within companies,” Yury Dobrovolsky, General Director of AFK Sistema’s Hydrogen
Energy Centre.
Alexander Ishkov, the Deputy Head of a Department and Head of
a Directorate at Gazprom, said that innovative energy technologies will play a
decisive role in the energy transition. Such technologies include thermonuclear
energy, terminal energy, as well as energy efficiency technologies.
“If we’re
talking about the fourth energy transition, which means the transition from
fossil fuels to renewable energy, then, of course, we must proceed from the
fact that hydrogen will be the generally recognized and cost-effective energy
source of the future,” Yury Volkov, N2 Invest
Director of Government Relations.
Experts noted that the most
preferable way to finance the energy transition is a partnership between the
government and business.
The discussion participants also
included Executive Director of the Institute of Arctic Technologies of the
Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Yury Vasiliev; N2 Clean Energy CEO
Alexey Kaplun; InEnergy Group Managing Director Alexey Kashin; and TMK Deputy
General Director for Science Igor Pyshmintsev. The session was moderated by
Oleg Zhdaneyev, Adviser to the General Director and Head of the Competence
Centre for Technological Development of the Fuel and Energy Industry of the
Russian Energy Agency of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Fderation.
