Preparations for REW 2018 discussed in Moscow
With the Russian Energy Week International Forum set to take place on 3–6 October at Moscow’s Manege Central Exhibition Hall, a meeting of the Organizing Committee took place in the city, chaired by Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak. Among those in attendance to discuss preparations for the event were Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov and representatives of ministries, government agencies, the Moscow City Government, and major energy companies.
“In two weeks, Moscow will host a truly global event: key industry players will gather to discuss the challenges facing the energy sector in a rapidly changing world. Ten thousand representatives from the sector are planning to visit Russian Energy Week. The Forum will host meetings of OPEC representatives, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, and the UN. A number of new features will also mark this year’s event, allowing leading companies in the sector to showcase their projects. I am grateful to all those taking part in preparations for the event – a great deal of work has been done,” said Novak.
The minister drew attention to the large number of ministries and government agencies from around the world to be taking part. Delegations from Africa and the Asia-Pacific have shown particular interest in the Forum.
“The participation of high-ranking international officials in the Russian Energy Week International Forum will help push discussions on the future development of energy to the next level. We look forward to a productive dialogue involving the global community aimed at solving key challenges faced by the industry around the world. A great deal of interest in the event stems from the fact that the agenda for this year’s Forum does not only encompass discussions on the future of global energy, but also raises crucial questions on comprehensive regional economic development. One of the main topics of the business programme will be increasing the combined opportunities offered by the Russian Arctic, which will be the focus of the session ‘The Energy Potential of the Arctic: Implementing Projects and Developing Logistics’,” said Kobyakov.
Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Anton Inyutsyn noted that the Forum’s business programme covers all aspects of the industry, commenting that “Russia Energy Week’s business programme has become even more comprehensive, with the number of events increasing by a quarter. This will be the first time that the Forum will host discussions on geopolitical topics, which will take place at the session ‘Geopolitical Scenarios and the Fuel and Energy Complex: The New Reality’.”
A long-established nationwide meeting focusing on the preparedness of energy facilities for the autumn-winter 2018–2019 period will also take place at the REW venue. In addition, the results of the Fourth Russian MediaTEK Competition for the Media and Press Offices of Energy Companies and Regional Governments will be announced. Inyutsyn expressed special gratitude to energy companies and journalists covering the energy sector for their participation in the competition, with the jury receiving over 400 entries from 50 regions across the country.
In recognition of the importance of training new professionals, the organizers of REW 2018 have scheduled a Youth Day for the second year running. The event will enable young specialists to learn about unique developments in energy and speak with industry representatives. More than 4,000 students are expected to attend.
